Because candy is the hallmark of Halloween, at least in part, my design this year was colorful and sweets inspired for just about every space on the house, including the mantel.
I initially got my color theme inspiration from a fun, colorful glass bead garland that I hung across the mantel (I used a similar one on the tablescape this year too!), then added a glitter skeleton garland over it.
The same bright pink in the garland I found in a fun hot pink flocked skeleton that I used as an anchor on the mantel. There is a great store in Los Angeles called Bonjour Fete that has fun, unique seasonal items. I ordered this skeleton (along with an orange and purple one!) as well as some colorful flocked pumpkins from the online store and they were a perfect addition to this year’s candy themed Halloween.
From there, I wanted to add even more pink color and did some diy crafting with paint, glitter and some mini pumpkins (yes, there was glitter everywhere!) to create different hues of pink and orange pumpkins that I used on the mantel and at the base of the mantel.
From a design standpoint, a mantel should have enough varying heights to create a sort of wave of visuals, with some tall anchors near the end as bookends. Here, I used matte black taper holders with these fantastic bright orange tapers with witches flying around them – I found these at a pop-up store at the mall years ago and I absolutely love them! They also added a nice pop of orange color to the mantel.
A note about sourcing accents for any holiday. When you are out during a holiday season and you see a pop-up store, go inside! You never know what you might find there and it will likely be something you won’t find anywhere else.
Once these anchors were set, I added whimsical accents, including a gold skull I found on Amazon, and a black owl from Z Gallerie that was part of their Christmas decorations one year.
Some spooky trees finished off the mantel, adding a little scary to this colorful Halloween design.
I matched this colorful design to my tablescape this year (you can see how that came together here), as well as the back patio table and front door to give the entire house a candy-colored Halloween!
This fun Halloween candy theme found its way to my chocolate cupcakes that I make for the neighborhood every year (they are a big hit, if I do say so myself!)
I hope this colorful Halloween design gave you some fun ideas for your next Halloween holiday. Until next time, Cheers!
