Christmas season is here, and this year I designed our holiday table with a red and white candy cane theme for a more whimsical look. Peppermint swirls of red and white, with green accents, and a fun candy house I found at World Market brought this table together in such a fun way!
Setting the Table
To tie into my candy cane theme, I used these fun red and white striped salad plates I found at replacements.com over a plain white dinner plate. (p.s. I can’t wait to use these for a Valentine’s Day table too!)
Each place setting was finished off with accent plates with peppermint candy rims, silver and gold chargers, and a red beaded mat over an alpine greenery mat for some peeks of green.
Adding Florals
Flowers always add that something extra to a table design and here I used a simple footed mercury bowl and added white hydrangeas, with red and white roses and some sprigs of two types of greenery. I used the same flowers on a smaller scale in mercury votive holders to add color and texture to each place setting, along with some colorful Christmas balls I put together with mini ornaments and floral wire.
Adding Festive Decorative Accents
Once the key aspects of the table came together, I added extras to enhance the theme with decorative accents. I found these fun peppermint striped trees on Amazon well after the Christmas holiday one year (they were at a great price!), and picked up the peppermint candy tree at marthastewart.com, also during the after-holiday sale on that website.
Candles, a few green and red swirled Christmas ornaments and candy (of course!) finished off the table design.
A quick note on sourcing decorative accents. I tend to look for pieces after a holiday to use in a future design so I can pick them up at a good price. It allows me to get creative and design something new each year while staying on budget!
This Candy Cane Christmas design was such a joyful table to spend time at this holiday season! I hope you have a few new ideas for your next confection filled table design. Until next time, Cheers!
