Another wonderful Christmas season is here and I’m going with a timeless classic for our decorations, with a Tartan Christmas table design this year. Tartan plaid, in whatever color theme you find, always feels like the holidays and there are so many fun ways to create the look!
determine what space I have for decorations and other fun adds, while giving the table some color and texture based on the selections. For this design, I started with a wintergreen placemat from Juliska and added a gold fluted charger that was a little more fanciful than a plain one.
For the place setting, I went slightly unconventional using a black rimmed dinner plate, with a black and red tartan salad plate, finishing off with Christmas accents plates I found on Spode.com.
Beautiful mix and match crystal stemware in red, black and green and pearl flatware finished off each place setting.
For the final touches, I added a touch of boxwood greenery at the charger plate to tie into the lovely boxwood napkin rings I used around red linen napkins.
Adding accents to the table design
Once the place setting was done, I started adding the special little extras that make the table festive! I wrapped small gift boxes in tartan paper and ribbon for each place setting, then added a gold and white Christmas ornament, a bright gold cracker from Caspari, and mini boxwood trees.
The table design came together with a series of boxwood trees and balls, and a large floral arrangement of red amaryllis and white magnolias in a silver footed bowl.
I added red, black and silver plaid finials, beaded tartan pillar candles and silver mercury pillar candles and finally loads of antique red mercury votives for more splashes of red on the table.
The final table felt as festive as the holiday season with all the bright color and textures! I loved how the different patterns of plaid played into the final design too. Remember that when you start with a theme, you can make it your own based on what you may already have or special finds you’ve picked up during some early holiday shopping.
We loved lingering over our delicious Christmas dinner at this beautiful table, and enjoyed breakfast there the next day as well!
I hope you found some new ideas for your next Christmas table design. Until next year, Cheers!
